 All about the Hardware

  • Getting the correct hardware for your needs is essential. With all the computer techno speak and fast talking salesman out there, this is easier said than done.
  • We have tried to help you in this quest by producing this guide. It does require you to read through our guides and recommendations but wherever possible we have tried to avoid techno speak and where we have to get technical we have tried to give you a full explanation so you have a good understanding.
  • After working through this guide you will end up with a pdf document that you can print out and take to your local computer store.

Show me what hardware I need

Show me what I can do with my current hardware

Value should be between 5500 and 30000

Your current system, plus capture hardware and cameras, should be able to:

  • Mainstream option for high definition

This option is a good HIGH DEFINITION (HD) option for fast moving action like running, hitting, jumping, spinning and cycling.

This is also a good option for recording two HIGH DEFINITION (HD) views of slower motion like walking, strength training or for recording long clips like tactical analysis, interviews, presentations or oral examinations to mention just a few. It may work well with faster motion but due to the lower frame rate you may not always get critical points in the motion.

Of course it will very comfortably handle lower spec’d demands as well.

Capabilities of a machine like this:

    Capture

    • One HD video stream
    • 1920 x 1080 pixels
    • 50/60 frames per second

    or

    • Two HD video streams
    • 1920 x 1080 pixels
    • 25/30 frames per second

    Time shift

    • Yes while just viewing
    • Yes while viewing and capturing

    Import and Analyse

    • Import HD videos
    • Playback up to two HD videos at once

Here is a PDF of the hardware you will need to achieve this functionality. There are potentially cheaper hardware options that may suit you dependent on the task you wish to complete and similarly you may need to look at a more expensive options if you are wishing to undertake more specialised analysis tasks.

This is a good option for recording slower HIGH DEFINITION (HD) motion like walking, strength training or for recording long clips like tactical analysis, interviews, presentations or oral examinations to mention just a few.

Hard drive: We recommend a fast (7,200 rpm or Solid State Drive) 350 GB or larger hard drive with about 50 GB free for your video files.
